Fra Rocaberti
The Gloria D’Amor of Fra Rocaberti is a Catalan vision-poem from the 15th century. It tells the story of a journey through the celestial spheres, guided by the angelic figure of Love. The poem is divided into three parts, each representing a different stage of the journey. The first part describes the ascent through the lower spheres, where the soul encounters various obstacles and temptations. The second part takes the reader through the higher spheres, where the soul is purified and enlightened. The final part describes the soul’s arrival at the throne of God, where it is united with the divine. Throughout the poem, Rocaberti uses vivid imagery and allegorical figures to convey his message of spiritual ascent and union with God. This edition includes a translation of the poem into modern English, as well as an introduction and notes that provide historical and literary context for the work. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
