Hugo Foguet escribió Pretérito Perfecto entre 1975 y 1982 nombrando al barrio de Yerba Buena, hablando de Bach, susurrando al lector una historia pequeña, local, distinta. Amigos que se reúnen a conversar, a polemizar, a ver el país desde una de las provincias con más historia. El escenario son las revueltas sociales de principios de los 70 conocidas como el Tucumanazo, y el eje resultan las historias de amor que se construyen en una intimidad, por momentos, demoledora.Pretérito Perfecto alude al cerro San Javier y también a los pubs de Londres. Foguet entra y sale de la periferia al centro cargándolo todo de sentido. En agosto de 1972, aún resuenan los ecos del Mayo francés y hay zonas del libro que son relatadas como si estuviera localizada en las calles de París. La vida es superior a la esperanza, escribe, y es muy difícil desmentirlo.En 1922 cayó en Los Andes un meteorito llamado Trilce, se dice, y no sólo César Vallejo es evocado aquí. También Seferis, Cendrars, Racine.Por momentos la poesía organiza la escritura, la templa. Registra en todo el relato la irrupción del humor junto a los trenes cañeros y la vida en los ingenios de azúcar de Tucumán. Y la época.
