Los grupos de sonidos es la obra teórica del destacado compositor y docente Héctor Tosar, redactada a principios de la década del noventa en elmarco de su cargo de profesor de composición en la Escuela Universitaria de Música de la Universidad de la República. Luego de muchos años de investigación junto con sus alumnos, Tosar produce este trabajo poniendo en perspectiva el análisis teórico y la práctica compositiva. La teoría de Los grupos de sonidos identifica los conjuntos de clases de altura presentes en las organizaciones modales, tonales y atonales, y trata de representarlos en forma geométrica dentro de un círculo cromático.
