Mifune bebió directamente de la fuente del Judo más tradicional, más puro y más completo. Un ejemplo de esto es su extraordinario método de Defensa Personal (Mifune Soen Goshin Jutsu), 30 técnicas que fueron un referente en aquella época y que desafortunadamente han caído en desuso hoy día. Técnicas de gran valor, que guardan similitudes evidentes con otros katas olvidados del Judo, como el Torite no Kata y con técnicas de Tenjin Shinyo Ryu Jujutsu y Yoshin ryu Jujutsu.
