Alfred Tennyson was born in Lincolnshire in 1809. While attending Cambridge he met who was to become his closest friend, Arthur Henry Hallam, who died suddenly in 1833. Between then and 1849 Tennyson wrote In Memoriam, and it was first published anonymously in 1850.The S4N Pocket Poems Series presents classic long poems and books of poetry as they were originally presented, free of interpretation and notes, and in an attractive size that can be carried and read anywhere.
